Trench Coat Size Guide (Oversized vs Regular)
Oct 14, 2026 ยท ~4 min read

1. Measure before you choose
Measure your bust (chest), shoulder width, and sleeve length with a soft tape over light clothing. For coats, always leave 4โ6 inches (10โ15 cm) of ease over your body measurement so you can layer a sweater underneath.
2. Fit chart
| Size | US | Bust (in) | Coat chest (in) |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 4โ6 | 33โ34 | 38โ39 |
| M | 8โ10 | 35โ36 | 40โ41 |
| L | 12โ14 | 37โ39 | 42โ44 |
| XL | 16 | 40โ42 | 45โ47 |
3. Oversized vs regular
Oversized adds 2โ4 inches beyond your usual size and drops the shoulder seam โ great for layering, but it can look bulky on petite frames. Regular fit follows your shoulders and is more versatile for office wear.
4. Sleeve and length
Sleeves should end at the wrist bone; a slightly shorter sleeve looks better with layers. Long (mid-calf) trench coats flatter taller frames, while knee-length works for most heights.
5. Care
- Dry clean recommended for structured trenches.
- Hang on a wide hanger to keep the shoulder shape.
- Don't overpack โ creases in coated fabric are hard to remove.
